Here Are 3 Typically Observed ADHD Symptoms in Children

Over a million children have been affected by ADHD, also known as attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder. Children’s behavior on average varies greatly from the behavior of those with ADHD behavior. It is common for parents to see that their child has a short attention span and begin to worry when it isn’t necessary. Since, a short attention span is normal behavior for a child of preschool age. The same is true for older children and adults with short attention spans, it all depends on their level of interest in something and what holds their attention. Children with ADHD most often show the three symptoms that are below.

A child with ADHD will often have a hard time focusing on anything or on details quite frequently. Plus, the child has a marked tendency to commit careless mistakes in activities and of course in their school work. We also want you to know that this is common for many children as well as adults. It is not a good idea to diagnose your child on the basis of a few instances. Your doctor is the best place for you to receive guidance on this subject.

Forgetting things is a common problem for all children. What an amazing symptom type this is. On occasion, we are all forgetful. It isn’t uncommon for those in work settings to forget things as well.

So, of course, the ADHD child will forget things in much more frequency than what seems normal. As the parent, you will have the best gauge of whether your child’s forgetfulness is more frequent than normal. You will observe a pattern of forgetting things and it will occur over time. A child without ADHD when compared with a child with ADHD, will forget things at a much lower rate than the later. When looking for this sign, you also want to pay attention to the time frame this happens in.

Another symptom you need to be aware of is the avoidance of mental effort for a larger than normal time period. Of course it’s important to note that most kids would prefer to play a video game as oppose to mental work. We all know as well that homework has been the bane of children, and teens, since homework was invented. But many kids do get their schoolwork done and are capable of sustaining the required effort to do so. It is often seen in children with ADHD a pure hatred or aversion to tasks requiring any mental effort. Most often parents will report this behavior upon the child reaching school age requiring homework or other school related work.

Be sure to seek advice from your family physician if after looking at these factors, you feel there is cause for concern.
